He advised them to be actively involved in student union activities, explaining that such participation would prepare them well for future leadership roles.

The president said that the university was prepared to support students in making their stay a worthwhile experience.

Strike: UNIBEN directs students to vacate hostels

Due to the two-month extension of the industrial action embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU), the Management of the University of Benin has directed that the institution be closed until further notice

On Tuesday, the university issued a statement from its Registrar, Ademola Bobola, indicating that students must vacate their hostels within 48 hours of receiving the notice.

After due consultation involving the institution’s management and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lilian Salami, on behalf of the Senate, a statement was released explaining the decision.

The university has decided that since lectures and other academic activities are not going on, students should not remain on campus.

Therefore, students must vacate the hostels within 48 hours of this notice.

They are to monitor the situation closely in order to be aware of the school’s eventual re-opening.

To the student body: Management wishes all students a safe journey to their respective destinations,” the statement read in part.
