FG set to Release New Curriculum for Universities in Nigeria

The National Universities Commission has disclosed that they are set to release a new curriculum for all universities in Nigeria.

This is as the commission announced the introduction of 17 additional disciplines to the Nigerian university system.

The NUC made this known in its latest bulletin, which was exclusively made available to The PUNCH on Sunday.

In the bulletin, the Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof Abubakar Rasheed, explained that the new curriculum was currently being worked upon by a team of experts and expressed the hope that it would be rated one of the best in the world.

The bulletin stated, “The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof Abubakar Rasheed, has stated that the commission will soon release the new core curriculum minimum academic standards being worked upon by a committee of experts in diverse disciplines aimed at ensuring that the academic programmes of the Nigerian university system become more globally competitive.

“While reviewing the activities of the commission in the past year, Rasheed recalled that following the 2018-2023 repositioning agenda of the NUC, the university system had in the past five years been undergoing a series of reforms aimed at revitalising it. In achieving the set goals, he said that the commission had continued to stay focused on reforming the system through curriculum reengineering, introduction of new programmes, unbundling of some programmes and undertaking routine accreditation and resource verification visits as well as research and innovation.

“Under the curriculum reengineering project, the commission had conducted a comprehensive review of the entire university curricula, and a draft of the benchmark minimum academic standard was sent to the universities and relevant stakeholders for inputs and comments, which will culminate into a new CCMAS in the system. It is the goal of the commission that by the end of 2022, the new curriculum of the NUS should be rated among the best three in Africa.

“Buttressing further, Prof Rasheed said in a bid to meet the global trend in technology and other emerging areas, the commission had introduced Allied Medical Sciences, Communication Studies and others as additional disciplines in the NUS, making it a total of 17 disciplines in the system.

“Some of the programmes include Artificial and Robotic Engineering, Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Information and Communication Technology, Forensic Science, Agricultural Extension and Community Development, as well as Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering.

“Within the year 2021, the NUC approved and recommended to the Federal Ministry of Education the establishment of 20 additional private universities, making it the largest ever in a single year.”

HISTORY OF MUSIC

Music is found in every known society, past and present, and is considered to be a cultural universal. Since all people of the world, including the most isolated tribal groups, have a form of music, it may be concluded that music is likely to have been present in the ancestral population prior to the dispersal of humans around the world. Consequently, the first music may have been invented in Africa and then evolved to become a fundamental constituent of human life, using various different materials to make various instruments.

A culture’s music is influenced by all other aspects of that culture, including social and economic organization and experience, climate, access to technology and what religion is believed. The emotions and ideas that music expresses, the situations in which music is played and listened to, and the attitudes toward music players and composers all vary between regions and periods. Music history is the distinct subfield of musicology and history which studies music (particularly Western art music) from a chronological perspective.

llb degree, what it means

What does LLB mean?
You always come across a particular individual who is slightly baffled by the term “LLB”, assuming the abbreviation is quite unusual compared to BA or BSc.

Most know that BA stands for Bachelor of Arts and BSc stands for Bachelor of Science.

llb degree, however, is not abbreviated in the same way and this leads to great uncertainty.

The reason? Well, we would have to go back further and research llb degree development, although it really isn’t that complicated. llb degree starts from the Latin abbreviation Legum Baccalaureus (also known as Bachelor of Laws). Likewise, the master of law is the LLM, the Legum Magister.

LLB

Types of LLB
This can be studied in a number of ways: in the usual three-year full-time law degree format; as a two-year degree course; or as a part-time diploma for four to six years.

This level of flexibility present in llb degree attracts many aspiring students, especially those looking to make a career change.

LLB course content
Regarding the content of the LLB programme, the course consists of seven core modules, which constitute the basic requirements for a law degree in England and Wales.

This includes contract law, criminal law, constitutional and administrative law, EU law, land law and equity and trust funds.

As part of LLB degree, students have the opportunity to supplement these core units with a variety of optional modules. It is important to take a thorough look at the course content to see if it is right for you and to learn about additional modules you can take. This will help you decide which university would be best for you to graduate from.

How hard is LLB?
As for the course itself, be prepared for a lot of reading. Being able to analyze and consult multiple texts and develop this vital skill throughout your graduation is crucial. When you graduate, this should all be second nature.

However, during your graduation, value its importance, otherwise it will cost you high grades. Remember, there is a big difference between a 2.1 and a First. Don’t be foolish enough to lose!

LLB is hard work. The more work you put in, the more you get out of it. Nicholas J McBride in his Letters to a Law Student advises you to “fall in love” with your degree, and if you do, you’ve really hit the jackpot!

Study law in Nigerian Universities

The biggest obstacle to starting a law degree in Nigeria is the cost. The cost of a public university education in Nigeria varies between $200 and $500 per year depending on where you go and what you do while in school. This is a significant amount of money for someone who is unemployed and trying to get by. There are other costs associated with living in Nigeria such as transportation, living expenses (including food), healthcare and child support. This means that the ability to get a degree will depend on how well you can manage these costs. The biggest factor that determines how much a degree costs is not only how expensive schools are but also how reputable the schools are.
